Figure Drawing: Skeletal Structure & the Human Form
Class Description
Explore the fundamentals of drawing the human figure in this hands-on workshop. Through a variety of exercises using conte crayon and charcoal, students will learn to accurately assess the human form and develop foundational skills for figure studies. Classes include gesture sketches, short poses, and extended poses, with one-on-one instruction to guide each student’s progress.

Weekly Session Structure:
10 × 1-minute gesture sketches
2 × 5-minute drawings
1 × 20-minute pose
2 × 25-minute seated poses
1 reclining pose extended over two 25-minute periods
Breaks for model and discussion included throughout.
Price
This class is operating on a sliding scale. You may purchase the class at a rate you feel financially comfortable with, up to the maximum class cost of $135. All students will receive the same instruction regardless of payment.

4- 6 Burnt sienna conte’ crayon sticks
7- 10 Vine Charcoal sticks
4 white crayon sticks for high lights
2 natural artist Chamois
2 large Kneaded erasers
9” x 12” sketchbook
Pencil set
Optional 18” x 24” drawing pad
Optional: 18” × 24” drawing pad for students who want to create more permanent works. Otherwise, newsprint is provided for studies, which is the focus of this class.
About the Instructor - Robert Lewis
A Cherokee National Treasure for Storytelling, Robert Lewis brings traditional knowledge to audiences across the globe, celebrating his own Cherokee, Navajo, and Apache heritage. From storytelling to cultural and art education, he is renowned for his ability to be inclusive and accessible.
Designated a National Treasure in 2015, his excellence in art and culture solidified his role in communities as a charismatic and engaging educator. He has been featured on PBS, at the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC, the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, and across the nation at universities, cultural organizations, corporations, and the US military.
He is the proud great-nephew of Navajo Code Talker PFC Harry Tsosie, the first and only of the original Code Talkers to be killed in action. He is a major supporter of the Commemorative Air Force RISE ABOVE Squadron and enjoys working with the community to understand Indigenous roles in US history.
Robert works diligently to reach all members of his audiences by utilizing American Sign Language, sensory friendly performances, as well as other welcoming and accessible approaches to share his stories.
