$80.00
sold out

Class Description

Discover the world of art in motion with this after school mixed media sculpture class, led by Becky Coppock. In this course designed for ages 11 to 15, participants will explore the diversity of bird species and construct their own feathered friends from leftover art materials, and unlock the secrets of their intricate anatomy.

The course continues with "Modern and Burlap Figures." Delve into the fascinating realm of human figure sculptures through the eyes of artists Albert Giacometti and Magdalena Abakanowicz. Discover how to create expressive wire figures and imbue them with personal flair, while exploring the incorporation of burlap to bring your creations to life.

The next class features kinetic sculpture on October 24th. "Art-O-Motion Kinetic Sculpture" takes inspiration from the mobile sculptures of Alexander Calder. Learn the techniques behind crafting wind-driven kinetic sculptures that dance with the breeze, utilizing spinning blades and stacked wooden beads with soft wire to construct your masterpiece.

Concluding the course is a dive into the world of wearable sculpture masks and spider sculptures. Explore the rich history of wearable art across cultures, and be inspired by modern designers like Nick Cave and works such as Louise Bourgeois' towering bronze spider "Maman." Learn the art of crafting masks using mixed media materials and bring spiders to life with wire and tissue paper.
